The US Senator, Marco Rubio refused to discuss climate change in a debate earlier this week

The US Senator, Marco Rubio refused to discuss climate change as he faced Democratic Patrick Murphy in a debate earlier this week.

Marco Rubio emphasised his support of fossil fuels and his disapproval of cutting carbon emissions, stating that a climate policy will hurt jobs.

Rubio’s hometown, Miami, Florida, has been suffering from flooding due to the sea level rise linked to greenhouse emissions which propels climate change. The surges in storms and high tidal flows, which have been accelerated by climate change, could destroy around 30% of Miami's houses within the next 75 hours according to a recent study.

Florida is one of the US States most at risk from sea level rises as well as dangerous weather events which are connected to climate change. It has long been insisted that in order to reduce the effects of climate chance, we must first reduce our amount of carbon emissions.

When asked about the issue of the seal level rising, Rubio stated that he is a supporter of mitigation efforts however he contests laws which aim to lower carbon emissions. Rubio is concerned that cutting emissions will cut jobs which would reduce the nations standard of living.
